I saw a post earlier asking “where our advice is coming from”. Part of the discussion suggested we list our hardiness zones to help out. A few weeks ago I donated to arborday.org. While on their website, I found a hardiness zone look up. This will work for those of you with US Zipcodes. Today the frozen ground in Seattle is beginning to melt. Hard freezes don’t always happen here in winter. Sure, we get a bit of a freeze, but having the ground solid for more than a couple of winter days in a row is rare. This winter we got hit a bit harder and are just now starting to thaw out. Hi you all,
I have been an advocate of xeroscaping and recycling in my garden for quite a few years.
The recycling started when I read about Lasagna Gardening! After we moved here, it became a way of starting new beds, reclaiming land from the forest without h digging and the back breaking work. And the Xeroscaping just followed.

A few years ago I was invited to participate in HGTV’s Landscaper’s Challenge. Although I have my own company, Garden Mentors, I do take subcontracted design work from time-to-time. My connection to the show came with a company for whom I do design work from time-to-time.
Someone has posted the video of my Landscaper’s Challenge episdoe on YouTube. Check it out here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2s-7tyuZ6YU
Enjoy!

Seeds? Starts? When? What? Why? How?
These are just a few of the many questions I get about vegetable gardening. Learn more about my thoughts on starting vegetables here: http://www.gardenhelp.org/gardening/gardening-from-seeds-or-from-starts/. If you’re in the greater Seattle area, this post will also help you find a few great plant sales for edibles and ornamentals in spring.
