They are back!!Yesterday as I took a walk through the woods with the dogs, I saw the tracks:turkeys. This morning as I am sitting here, I looked up and saw my first turkey of the year roosting at the very top of a tree.It is hardly a shadow and you have to know what it is to recognize it. They come down to the ground as soon as there is enough light to see. When hubby came in after cleaning his car of all the snow, he told me he could hear them in the woods!!!
As I say goodbye to him, I see...

The cooler weather is making it alittle easier to get into the gardens and start cleaning up. Because I have so many iris, I have to start cutting the tops and cleaning the plants in order to keep them healthy and discourage grubs. It’s a good time to pull out dead and dying foliage too. I try to do some transplanting while I’m at it.———-But mostly I spend alot of my time just admiring the flowers that are still going strong.
Lots of cosmos, these ones ar...

Hey folks,
I’m still around and come by to read when I can. Just been busy with life in general and trying to get things done.
There’s not much happening around the yard. I’ve still got half a pile of mulch that I had delivered which I can’t seem to get to doing anything with. I did build a new flower bed near the house, but it’s not at any point which I want to show it off.. ;)
Garden is winding down. Been pulling tomato plants as they die off and layin...

Three seasons ago, I planted a half dozen bare root hollyhocks, which grew like gangbusters, and bloomed beautiful red, pink and fruit punch colored flowers. The year after, the resultant plants were crippled by bugs and what looked like a rust, and barely bloomed at all.
Started last season, I have had decent growth (I’m trying to avoid using chemical pesticides), but the blooms are far different than before. Now they’re black! Check it out:

For the past couple of weeks we’ve been hearing a huge splash in the pond and haven’t been able to see what it was, although we figured that it was a frog.
Yesterday, we finally saw him. So here’s Freddy.

On “the list” for a couple of years has been to put our old wire dog pen sections around our pool area. This year, it is happening.
We (ok, Rick) dug three holes for posts and then we attached two sections of the dog pen to the posts. We decided to do just one side of the pool at a time. Enough digging, already!!!!
The goal of the fence, although it should be for safety reasons for the pool, it will have another purpose. As for safety, I’m positive th...

My aunt gave me these plants a few years ago and I stuck them in the ground here – I was busy at the time and didn’t have time to plan where i was going to put them. I also didn’t know what they looked like or how tall they’d grow.
Perhaps this fall they will find a new home.
Anyway, I think she calls them Golden Glows.
The Flower
The EnvironmentThe plant is located to the west of our back shed. I haven’t tackled this flowerbed this y...
