I’ve been growing a few veggies the past few years on a mound of leftover soil in the backyard. I decided it was time to find a tidy way to maximize my space and grow more efficiently for next year….square foot gardening.
From what I have read, square foot gardening looks like the best way to grow a bountiful crop with little to no weeds, less soil, less critters, less work and more veggies!
The square-foot gardening concept is simple: Build a raised bed, divide the space i...

Recap: Saturday I brought our two fish inside and set up a bubbler/filter for them. The cat was soon to greet them with a paw that was itching to play catch. So I covered the container, leaving just enough open on one end for air/light circulation. It was a “quick fix” until i decided where the fish were going to stay for the winter.
This morning I woke to find only my goldfish in the tub....

Let’s review the history of my garden regarding “carrots”.

Remember to put your mouse over the pics for more info :)
We have about 1/8 of an acre of fir, spruce and scrubby woods in our back garden. This year I wanted to make use of it yet at the same time keep the woodland feel. Our trees are very spindly so the majority of my time I spent with my Fiscars lopers and some hand pruners thinning out trees making room for others to grow.
The paths just took on a life of their own, I had no real plan just shape and trim keeping the nicest trees ...

Ugh.. Well, I’m having some kind of reaction to something I’d been mucking around with. It’s not poison ivy, I don’t get it and this isn’t an ivy rash.
Seems to be a reaction to the Virginia Creeper that I pulled up.. It’s a light reaction but annoying.
My arms and legs itch. Most likely not directly because of the contact, but it seems to be aggravating any histaminic reactions to bites from fleas or skeeters.
My forehead, which I rubbed with my a...

March 8, 2008 (Happy Birthday Bullseye)
With my birthday on Monday (Happy 50th yippee) we decided to have bonfire breakfast this weekend. What a day to have it—we could barely see each other, it was snowing so hard (well that’s exaggerating a little bit but not too much).
Our gazebo was greatly appreciated today, with the semi-warm, semi-cozy (well, really cozy with 11 people inside it) , out-of-the-snow environment, it was the first time that we all ate inside. It was wonde...

We have had this plant for years. My mother has it as well. She never knew the name and neither do I!
