When too much of a good thing is a bad thing!
I just rec’d my Seeds of Change catalog in the mail. I prefer to start my garden with their organic offerings (seeds or flats), rather than the conventional fare I can pick up locally, which may be slightly cheaper with far fewer choices.
after thumbing through the heirlooms and new offerings, I see I could totally (and happily) cover my yard (freshly graded and seeded) with nothing but tomatoes…. Oh how to choose what else to st...

With the hollyhocks gone I had to do something to make the garden look better so I got it ready for fall.

Well the mulch was delivered today. 8 scoops, which breaks down to 4 pickup truck loads. It’s rather fun to play in, love the smell.
For size, and a side shot of the pile. Stuff in the back is a wetvac and a vanity that are going to be picked up as trash.
I’d also been working for the last two nights to cover the flower bed along the back and side of the fence. Because the back was pre-planted, I needed to cut wholes in the cardboard for the plants. That was a trip.

Today has been a quite busy day. Hubby and I headed up to our Farmer’s Market early this morning. Grabbed a cup of yummie coffee and strolled around the Market checking out all the flowers. I bought Wave Petunias in two colors, Periwinkles, Gerbera Daisies, and a white flowered ground cover that I cannot remember the name of. Oh yah, and a basket of Million Bells Petunias for my old White Spindle Back Chair.
After we got home and we (okay, hubby) unloaded the truck with all “my...

Today I dug another path and laid out flat rocks for stepping stones.

For the last two weeks I have been busy, most evenings, cutting out flower patterns and making a good mess of our living room floor!! -vbg- Mike, who is a GT Tenders, had brought to my attention these marvelous and quite beautiful Canal Art pieces. Realizing my artistic limitations; it did get the old brain thinking how I might minic those pieces. So, I headed to a fabric store and purchased a yard of floral material with a black background. And now here we are, back to the beginning, with m...

Okay, I know many of you live in places where a late March snow isn’t uncommon. Here in Seattle we’re usually past the snow season by mid-February. Still, we’re getting some super cold rain showers this late, in Spring! Actually, they got so cold yesterday that the showers turned to hail, freezing rain and snow for a while in the evening. And, there’s still ice on some rooftops this morning.
Sure, I can “suck it up” and deal with the cold, but how are ne...

I began pondering last fall about what I could do with a patch of earth that lined the whole side of the house and a portion of the driveway. This strip gets lot of sun and heat, all day. What came to mind was a Container Garden. Now I am not talking about just filling a few pots with flowers and calling “it a day”. What I have in mind are items that I can repurpose; or unusual garden pieces; or items that are just pretty to place among the flowers and various containers.
So to...

Yes, indeed, it is definitely the winter season. Everything is covered with snow and a layer of ice from the rain/freezing rain we also had. Yesterday the winds howled and the snow blew and I snuggled up in a blanket.
At one point, I did have to go outside to button down the hatches of the gazebo. The tarps were flying and the grommets were pulled out and I knew that our bonfire breakfasts were on hold until we got the last two walls complete. (which is also on hold until we can find some ...
