My “big red” finally opened … ain’t she purdy!!! :-)
September 6, 2008 I’ve been enjoying this view for the past week or so and thought maybe I should post it here. This is looking out my dining room window (metal is our aerial). I retouched the photo a bit to counteract the grey of the window screen and the umm.. dirty window.. haha
The nights are getting a bit cooler now and September is right around the corner. As I gaze out into my yard I am realizing that this is really the tail end of my flowers and their beautiful colors. Summer is quickly coming to an end. When hubby and I went away on our latest vacation, I had expected to come home to the dreary task of beginning to put my gardens to “bed”. A task that I hate because I know fall is basically here and winter not far behind. As we approached the ...
Seems like the mint jelly is by far the winner among all the jellies we’d done and has gained the most attention so I thought that I would write it up and post it online. This recipe can no doubt be adapted to other infusions without much fuss.. First few things that come to mind are any of the mint family. This batch we used plain old mint and pineapple mint mixed together. You could use chocolate mint, spearmint, or even lemon balm; but I can’t fathom why you’d want to ...
Poor hubby. Kid called on his way to deliver grandkids for last day of school. “Hey, Mom, There’s a guy putting in a new driveway here on Old Kawkawlin Rd. He says you can have all the busted up old stuff you want to haul away!” So guess what hubby was doing by 0715 ! We loaded up between 1200 and 1500 pounds of concrete chunks, hauled it home, and unloaded it.Got enough to edge both shade beds, and at least make a good start on the fence bed, one layer high. Will need more,...
LOL.. No, not the whole thing.. That would be an absolute mirricle. No, the radishes are close to being large enough to harvest. Several of them are a nice size, not too big, and soft to the pallet. We’ll be starting to pull some of the larger ones tomorrow and figuring out what to do with them.. I kind of over planted and now we’ve got a 50’ row packed FULL of radishes.. They’ve done extremly well. In other news. I’ve got my fruit trees in, as well ...
Well, seems they did indeed end up issuing a frost advisory, which means either patchy frost or wide spread. So, a night trip to Wally*World to pick up plastic was in order. I picked up 4 roles of 10’x25’ plastic thinking it would cover everything. Ended up not covering about 15’ of the bed, so, I guess when I expanded the bed I forgot to factor in the size with my thinking. Bed is 65-70’ long.. I’ll measure it tomorrow. No biggy though. We had several plas...
October 30, 2008 This morning, I looked out to the pond to find it covered in a layer of ice. Brr. it’s cold. It’s interesting to watch our two fish continuing on about their day under the ice… the fun part, however, was just now (noon-ish) watching half a dozen sparrows bathing in the little corner of the pond that was open water. I wish I could have gotten a picture.
October 25, 2008 This morning was Bonfire Breakfast. Bright and early (7 AM) family arrived to enjoy our “traditional” bonfire breakfast together. Ok, so the sky wasn’t bright – but it was early! Actually, it was pitch black out and we had the privilege of experiencing Mother Nature’s washing of the world (yes, it was a rainy morning). Our gazebo (that we had built for such weather conditions) is currently holding some big gourds during their drying proc...
I’m looking to find some ideas for decorating in my garden areas. Furnishing, structures anything at all
