My New Allotment #2: Progress on my Allotment

04-04-2011 01:59 PM by Desktopgem | 76 comments »

Last week I saw an advert in the local what do you call it newspaper where you can buy and sell? I saw an incinerator for sale so phoned and asked if they could deliver it. I also asked if they had a water butt. It turned out that the man in question makes them and he agreed to deliver them to my allotment today. Not only that but the allotment boss was there and said he would sell them! See what good came of it all round. I should get some commission but guess I won’t. Instead of di...

Hi Everyone From Florida

02-22-2009 08:46 AM by Iris43 | 55 comments »

How great is this? I can keep up with all the news and happenings on GT with the internet. I left home on the 15th and arrive in Fort Meyers Beach on Tues. My friends arranged a spot for me to set up my camper right next to the Gulf beach! I went to sleep each night with the sound of the waves lapping gently on the beach. We went out one evening for supper to a fishery and had a wonderful feast of shrimp! On Fri. I left FMB and drove over to the Atlantic side where I am now enca...

Garden Plannings #4: Itchen' for Chickens

03-29-2008 08:00 PM by Scott Hildenbrand | 53 comments »

I’ve been wanting to keep a few chickens for ages, even before I moved down here and got married. Not too many mind you, but like 5 to 8 or so. I’d actually mentioned it to the wife a few times and she seems to like the idea. I swear half the stuff I think up that she seems to like is just her humoring me. From what I’ve read I’m leaning towards Buff Orpingtons since they’re so well natured and can be easily handled. I’ve no use for a rooster.. I h...

GT "Stuff" #15: Get-together, 2011

02-25-2011 09:55 AM by MsDebbieP | 46 comments »

2/25/11 I’ve been picking up on some subtle hints that perhaps we need to plan another get-together for this summer (as well as one for 2012) and so I’m offering to host the event(s). Where: Southwestern Ontario (Brant County region) When: my daughter is to have her baby sometime around the first of June and we will be heading to BC in the summer to introduce Baby Aaron to his aunt, uncle, and cousin. So, I thought that the end of June would be a safe time for me to host ...

Our Pond #3: New Fish and...

04-25-2008 04:26 PM by MsDebbieP | 45 comments »

April 25, 2008 I had to go to town today so i made a couple other stops and did some garden shopping :D 1) I bought some blue pansies to put in my “frog pond” flower bed—3 metal frog sculptures surrounded by the blue pansies which looks like water if you use your imagination. 2) three blueberry bushes. —location for them yet to be determined and 3) fish.I got 2 shubunkins (is that the right word?) and one little goldfish (maybe not a good decision after rea...

Chickens in the garden

01-10-2008 03:55 PM by XploreOrganics | 45 comments »

Before we moved to our new home we discussed having chickens. We would get a few for eggs and perhaps even a few meat birds…BOY WAS I WRONG. I should have known better that with my personality those birds would win me over – BIGTIME. We moved into our new home and that summer decided to get 3 hens of almost laying age off a local farmer. We would not name them in fear of getting “attached”. When we spoke of them it was the red one, the black one and the mu...

Hardy Hibiscus 2010

08-01-2010 01:29 PM by Iris43 | 43 comments »

The first one of my ‘Hardy Hibiscus’ opened it’s first bloom yesterday. I wanted to show how similar the bloom is to Sharad’s and jroot’s Tropical Hibiscus. And I want to record the first bloom of each plant/bush that I have in my garden, so I can look back next year and compare. I am certain they bloomed much later last year and consequently the last blooms got hit by frost. I plan to keep coming back to this blog to add each new flower as it blooms. So h...
