2008Every year Rick and I record the birds that we see in / above our own backyard (recording it on our blackboard and then wipe it off in the winter and start over again in the spring).With all the talk about birds here at GT I thought that recording them here would be a better idea.

How great is this? I can keep up with all the news and happenings on GT with the internet.
I left home on the 15th and arrive in Fort Meyers Beach on Tues. My friends arranged a spot for me to set up my camper right next to the Gulf beach! I went to sleep each night with the sound of the waves lapping gently on the beach.
We went out one evening for supper to a fishery and had a wonderful feast of shrimp!

I’ve been wanting to keep a few chickens for ages, even before I moved down here and got married. Not too many mind you, but like 5 to 8 or so.
I’d actually mentioned it to the wife a few times and she seems to like the idea. I swear half the stuff I think up that she seems to like is just her humoring me.
From what I’ve read I’m leaning towards Buff Orpingtons since they’re so well natured and can be easily handled.

I had to go to town today so i made a couple other stops and did some garden shopping :D 1) I bought some blue pansies to put in my “frog pond” flower bed—3 metal frog sculptures surrounded by the blue pansies which looks like water if you use your imagination.

Before we moved to our new home we discussed having chickens. We would get a few for eggs and perhaps even a few meat birds…BOY WAS I WRONG.

The first one of my ‘Hardy Hibiscus’ opened it’s first bloom yesterday. I wanted to show how similar the bloom is to Sharad’s and jroot’s Tropical Hibiscus. And I want to record the first bloom of each plant/bush that I have in my garden, so I can look back next year and compare. I am certain they bloomed much later last year and consequently the last blooms got hit by frost.

I was wondering what differencies in christmas trees are in various countries. Do you have an artificial or live tree? How do you usually decorate it? I’ve made some photos of our christmas tree (not very good quality, unfortunatelly). We usually use traditional wooden christmas decorations, such as angels, Dedo Mraz(Santa Claus in US), stars and christmas lights as well. Don´t hesitate and show your christmas tree photos to other gardentenders!

Today while weeding (after my two weeks off due to extreme heat and then rain yesterday)... I found some surprises and I have questions!
1. This is a pepper plant??? I’ve never had flowers like this before on a pepper plant. What am I growing?

2. I thought this was a hollyhock but the leaves are different than my other hollyhock…. what am I growing?

3. And I happened to notice this on my weeping pea tree!! No wonder they call it a pea tree :)
