2008Every year Rick and I record the birds that we see in / above our own backyard (recording it on our blackboard and then wipe it off in the winter and start over again in the spring). With all the talk about birds here at GT I thought that recording them here would be a better idea.

I’ve been wanting to keep a few chickens for ages, even before I moved down here and got married. Not too many mind you, but like 5 to 8 or so.
I’d actually mentioned it to the wife a few times and she seems to like the idea. I swear half the stuff I think up that she seems to like is just her humoring me.
From what I’ve read I’m leaning towards Buff Orpingtons since they’re so well natured and can be easily handled.
I’ve no use for a rooster.. I h...

I had to go to town today so i made a couple other stops and did some garden shopping :D 1) I bought some blue pansies to put in my “frog pond” flower bed—3 metal frog sculptures surrounded by the blue pansies which looks like water if you use your imagination.
2) three blueberry bushes. —location for them yet to be determined
and
3) fish.I got 2 shubunkins (is that the right word?) and one little goldfish (maybe not a good decision after rea...

Yes, indeed – the garden is in. It’s not completely finished (that will be done tomorrow) but the majority is done. Woo hoo.. Finally.
That’s it.. short and sweet—and no pictures. We’re off to bonfire night at my brothers. See you tomorrow!!

Someone sent me these pictures.
This is a flower from Thailand. It is also a protected species.
It is not allowed to be exported.
This will be the only way we will be able to view this flower.
Some info on the flower.

Before we moved to our new home we discussed having chickens. We would get a few for eggs and perhaps even a few meat birds…BOY WAS I WRONG.
I should have known better that with my personality those birds would win me over – BIGTIME.
We moved into our new home and that summer decided to get 3 hens of almost laying age off a local farmer. We would not name them in fear of getting “attached”. When we spoke of them it was the red one, the black one and the mu...

I was wondering what differencies in christmas trees are in various countries. Do you have an artificial or live tree? How do you usually decorate it? I’ve made some photos of our christmas tree (not very good quality, unfortunatelly). We usually use traditional wooden christmas decorations, such as angels, Dedo Mraz(Santa Claus in US), stars and christmas lights as well. DonĀ“t hesitate and show your christmas tree photos to other gardentenders!

Hooray, it’s Sunday morning and I’m off to the Flea Market!! Can’t wait to see if any new vendors are there. Hoping I have better luck than last week …
Park the truck and in I go … Wow, looks like I might have better luck. The second vendor I walk by has several huge, old stock pots, in many different colors. Those would be really pretty planted and for $5.00, I’m sold.
Now, I had been lamenting at hubby about my failure to find that child’s old...

Today was my sister-in-law’s and my monthly road trip. We started at Canning Perennials and then went to a smaller centre in Muir, followed by the big Oxford Insta-Shade, lunch, and then one of Courtland’s antique store and finally Coyles. Phew. What a day!
I have an order in at Canning Perennials but it wasn’t ready yet so I just browsed. Yup.. browsed. Can you believe it? Came away with a Northern Azalea Golden Lights bush that smells DELICIOUS, several ...
