Hi Everyone From Florida

386 days ago by Iris43 | 55 comments »

How great is this? I can keep up with all the news and happenings on GT with the internet. I left home on the 15th and arrive in Fort Meyers Beach on Tues. My friends arranged a spot for me to set up my camper right next to the Gulf beach! I went to sleep each night with the sound of the waves lapping gently on the beach. We went out one evening for supper to a fishery and had a wonderful feast of shrimp! On Fri. I left FMB and drove over to the Atlantic side where I am now enca...

Garden Plannings #4: Itchen' for Chickens

716 days ago by Scott Hildenbrand | 53 comments »

I’ve been wanting to keep a few chickens for ages, even before I moved down here and got married. Not too many mind you, but like 5 to 8 or so. I’d actually mentioned it to the wife a few times and she seems to like the idea. I swear half the stuff I think up that she seems to like is just her humoring me. From what I’ve read I’m leaning towards Buff Orpingtons since they’re so well natured and can be easily handled. I’ve no use for a rooster.. I h...

April 25, 2008 I had to go to town today so i made a couple other stops and did some garden shopping :D 1) I bought some blue pansies to put in my “frog pond” flower bed—3 metal frog sculptures surrounded by the blue pansies which looks like water if you use your imagination. 2) three blueberry bushes. —location for them yet to be determined and 3) fish.I got 2 shubunkins (is that the right word?) and one little goldfish (maybe not a good decision after rea...

Chickens in the garden

795 days ago by XploreOrganics | 45 comments »

Before we moved to our new home we discussed having chickens. We would get a few for eggs and perhaps even a few meat birds…BOY WAS I WRONG. I should have known better that with my personality those birds would win me over – BIGTIME. We moved into our new home and that summer decided to get 3 hens of almost laying age off a local farmer. We would not name them in fear of getting “attached”. When we spoke of them it was the red one, the black one and the mu...

Christmass Tree

802 days ago by Michal Bulla | 43 comments »

I was wondering what differencies in christmas trees are in various countries. Do you have an artificial or live tree? How do you usually decorate it? I’ve made some photos of our christmas tree (not very good quality, unfortunatelly). We usually use traditional wooden christmas decorations, such as angels, Dedo Mraz(Santa Claus in US), stars and christmas lights as well. DonĀ“t hesitate and show your christmas tree photos to other gardentenders!

Chickens #8: More Walls up in the Coop

331 days ago by Scott Hildenbrand | 40 comments »

Spent more time today on the coop. It’s been raining alot recently and has disrupted working on it. Managed to get three walls up before we had to call it quits for now. I was really hoping for all four walls. As you can see, the entry door is to the left and off to the right is a window with a large cleanout door under it. You can also see the drop in the floor level, though my plans for the roost poop have changed. Still handy to have. One of my helpers up and collapsed we were...
